The society’s annual journal, launched in 1869 as the Yorkshire Archaeological and Topographical Journal, publishes a wide variety of articles and reports about the history and archaeology of Yorkshire.

The editors will consider submissions on any topic and historical period, providing they relate to the historic county of Yorkshire. The journal contains a similar number of articles on archaeology and history, along with book reviews and obituaries. With full membership of the society comes a copy of the current year’s YAJ.

Authors interested in submitting an article for publication should first see Notes for Authors. We publish work by academics, professional archaeologists, and independent scholars, whether or not members of the YAHS. We are happy to advise potential authors. All articles are reviewed by an anonymous refereeing process before publication. Please direct any enquiries about editorial matters to yas.editor@gmail.com

For our policy about granting permission to reproduce material from the Yorkshire Archaeological Journal, please see Guidance on Copyright

Books for review should be marked for the attention of the YAJ history or archaeology editor and sent to Claremont, 23 Clarendon Road, Leeds LS2 9NZ.

The contents of the YAJ from vol. 43 (1971) to vol. 82 (2010) can be viewed here. Many past volumes are available to purchase from the Yorkshire Archaeological & Historical Society. Since 2011 the journal has been published and sold by Maney Publishing, now Taylor & Francis, and the contents of volumes from 82 (2010) are also listed on Taylor and Francis website.
